Cora Shoemaker is an independent bespoke shoemaker currently working in Fernandina Beach Florida.

Though geographically removed from its historic environments in Paris, London, Italy, and elsewhere in Europe, the workshop begins with a dedication and commitment to the spirit of the craft, aiming to preserve and faithfully represent its traditions while creating shoes that are suitable for the context and environment in which they are made today.

Unique in the world of shoemaking, all work is completed in house by one maker, the creator of Cora Shoemaker, Tom Barton. Everything is made by Tom from carving the last, drafting and creating patterns, sewing uppers, lasting, welting, stitching, and finishing shoes. With the exception of our bespoke shoe trees, all work is completed here in the workshop by one pair of hands.

Given the nature of bespoke shoemaking, and particularly when working independently, production capacity is strictly limited. While overall output is annually low, it is balanced by the amount of time, attention, consideration, and care which can be given to each pair.

The workshop strives to create beautiful shoes with both a sculptural and functional appeal which remain true to the traditions of the craft, offering a service and product found with increasing rarity even in Europe today.

As one of few bespoke shoemakers working in the United States, it is a pleasure to offer the bespoke experience to those who share a passion for handmade shoemaking.
